Kent has been on the books of Liverpool since 2003, but he has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League for the Reds.
The 19-year-old winger, who can also play as a second striker, had a spell on loan at Coventry City last season.
Barnsley boss Heckingbottom has revealed that he wants to add Kent to his squad for the 2016-17 season.
“He is a good player and he did well against us last season,” Heckingbottom told The Barnsley Chronicle about signing Kent. “He certainly fits into the bracket of player that we are after.”
Kent is a talented young player, but it is unlikely that he would be able to play for the Liverpool first team anytime soon.
Perhaps the best move for the youngster would be to join Barnsley on a season-long loan deal.
Barnsley will feature in the Championship next season after gaining promotion from League One via the playoffs at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
It seems that Heckingbottom is keen on the England Under-20 international winger, which suggests that the youngster would get regular playing time for the Tykes next season.
