Sam Winnall scored a dramatic late equaliser as Barnsley drew 1-1 with Aston Villa at Oakwell in the Championship.
Winnall’s goal in the 90th minute denied Roberto Di Matteo’s side the win as Barnsley continued their good start to the season, while Aston Villa have now drawn their last five league games.

Villa had taken the lead in the 61st minute after Jordan Ayew had opened the scoring with his first goal of the campaign, after he picked up the ball inside the box before finding the bottom corner.

Despite dominating Paul Heckingbottom’s side, particularly in the first half, Villa could not capitalise on their chances created, and with a minute remaining Barnsley earned a corner after good work from Cole Kpekawa.
But after Villa failed to clear a corner, Winnall headed home Barnsley’s equaliser to give both teams the share of the points.
The away side had chances to kill the game off with Jonathan Kodjia and Jack Grealish particularly wasteful in front of goal, and while Barnsley will feel they gained something from their late equaliser, Di Matteo was left feeling bitterly disappointed when the Birmingham Mail reported that he said: “I thought the team battled hard in the first and second half. We created so many chances but we need to be more clinical.
“There were some excellent chances to score the second and third goal but we couldn’t manage it.”
Villa remain 17th in the table with just 10 points from 10 games, with Barnsley 10th having brought to an end their run of two successive defeats.
