Leeds United’s Luke Ayling upset the Barnsley boss.
Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom has told The Yorkshire Post that Leeds United right-back Luke Ayling is guilty of getting Harvey Barnes booked following his “appalling dive” on Saturday.
First-half goals from Samu Saiz and Egzjan Alioski saw Leeds run out 2-0 winners at Oakwell.
One of the Tykes’ better players this season, Barnes, was hooked at half-time after picking up a yellow card and was lucky not to get sent off after tackling Kalvin Phillips.
His first came for a challenge on the Leeds defender, and Heckingbottom has suggested that Ayling dived to win that particular foul.
“It is appalling that he got booked for a kid [Ayling] trying to win a penalty. An appalling dive, I don’t have to see it back to know that,” he told The Yorkshire Post.
It was one of Ayling’s better performances in recent weeks and months as the 27-year-old seems to be struggling with consistency this season.
Under Garry Monk last term, Ayling was a revelation – especially given his £700,000 transfer fee – and Leeds fans will hope he can get back to that level on a consistent basis.
