The full-back has been a regular for Everton’s Under-23s side, but he has only played one minute of first-team football in a Europa League clash against Krasnodar two seasons ago.

Jones has seen his path into the first-team blocked by Seamus Coleman and Mason Holgate and Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is willing to let him move on.

Barnsley are looking to bolster their defensive options at Oakwell and they have lined up a loan deal for Jones.

Jones is in the final six months of his contract at Everton and the loan deal includes the option of making the move permanent at the end of the season.

The news of Jones’ imminent arrival at Oakwell will fuel speculation that Barnsley could lose first-choice right-back James Bree before the close of the transfer window.
