Ross Barkley’s loan move to Aston Villa was sealed rapidly yesterday.

But Barkley told the Express and Star he has been talking to Villa captain Jack Grealish in recent days about what he can expect at the club.

Barkley and Grealish both have ambitions to be in England’s squad for Euro 2020 and linking up at Villa could make them a reality.

The Chelsea loanee revealed that they’re friends off the pitch and said he’s looking forward to playing alongside Grealish.

“Me and Jack are mates off the field. We know each other well,” said Barkley.

“We have spoken previously and I am looking forward to playing with him.

“I’ve spoken to him over the past couple of weeks and he’s been telling me about how good the club is and how welcomed I’d be when I came here.”

Grealish’s good relationship with Barkley should help the England international settle at Villa Park.

Barkley’s arrival should create more space for Grealish, who was double-marked at times last season.

Villa have added a greater array of threats to their side this season and the signs are good for them.

Even if no-one else comes in before the deadline, it’s been a very good window for Dean Smith’s side.
