Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the Everton player but they would be better off focusing on the Real Madrid star.
According to a recent report from the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, with his current club rating him in the region of £35million.
That is a lot of money to pay for a player who has only shown glimpses of his undeniable talent up to now, but then Spurs agreed a £30million fee for Moussa Sissoko so anything is possible in modern day football.
The problem for Tottenham fans is that Barkley is not the player to take them to the next level; he is a risk that may pay off but could just as easily fall flat.
After all, Barkley has been hailed as the next big thing for years now, and yet two goals and two assists in 14 league matches this season is nothing to write home about.
He is no longer a bright young, instead approaching his mid-twenties with little to show for the hype, so why would Tottenham sign him when there is a star name they have long been linked with who could take them to the next level?
Real Madrid play-maker Isco is only a year older than Barkley and yet he has experience of playing at the highest level of the game. He has also scored 15 more goals and provided 30 more assists than the Toffees player while often struggling for game time at the Bernabeu.
That says less about Isco’s talent than the strength in depth at Real and if he moved to a club where he could play week in, week out, he would shine.
The time has come for Tottenham to add some real star quality to their exciting squad and Isco fits the bill.
He may even cost less than the £35million touted for Barkley, with his own contract coming to an end in 18 months, so surely it is a no-brainer.
