Rangers did not want to stump up the fee required to sign Louis Moult from Motherwell in the summer – but they’ve got no excuse now.
It seems that Louis Moult’s days as a Motherwell player are coming to an end. The striker has made it clear that he does not see his long-term future at Firhill and, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Scottish Premiership side will soon have no control over his future.
And if Motherwell are to receive any transfer fee for the top scorer in Scotland’s top flight, they know that they will have to sell their prized asset in January.
Though Wigan Athletic are only too happy to pay – especially if Motherwell are to let Moult go on a cut-price deal. The Scottish Sun claim that the 25-year-old may be available for just £500,000, a fee that has the League One leaders drooling.
But surely Rangers cannot afford to miss out on Moult with the striker reported to be available at a fraction of his true market value.
The Scottish Sun state that Rangers were interested in bringing the former Wrexham man to Ibrox in the summer but were not prepared to meet Motherwell’s asking price. But with Stephen Robinson’s side now willing to accept far less, there should be no concerns that Moult will be out of the Glasgow giants’ price-range.
And it’s fair to say Rangers know just how good Moult can be. He scored twice against them, including a superb long-range lob, to book Motherwell’s place in the Scottish League Cup final back in October.
But will Moult be hitting the net in the famous blue kit of Rangers in the New Year?
