Of the two central defenders who Liverpool signed in January, Jurgen Klopp clearly prefers Ozan Kabak.
The Reds brought him and Ben Davies to Anfield during the winter due to an injury crisis of central defenders.
And although Davies hasn’t yet made his Liverpool debut, Kabak, on a half-season loan from Schalke, is now thriving in a big way.
The 20-year-old had a pretty difficult first month in England but, coming from German football and being a very young player, this was to be expected.
But he’s now a mainstay in Liverpool’s first XI alongside Nat Phillips in a back four that finally has some stability, with the duo keeping clean sheets in three of their last four games.
Interestingly, the reigning Premier League champions have the option to sign Kabak outright this summer and if they do, it’s going to be a major bargain.
That’s because Liverpool only have to part with £18 million to make the move permanent and when you consider Kabak’s age and how quickly he’s adapting to life in England, he’s clearly going to get so much better.
Their centre-back problems have very much ruined the Reds’ season, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez sidelined since October.
But if there’s one silver lining to be taken from this disastrous domestic campaign, it’s that Liverpool have unearthed a potential gem and for £18 million, that’s a small price to pay.
