Swansea’s Modou Barrow has endured a miserable loan spell with Leeds United.

Leeds United’s season ultimately fell apart towards the end of the campaign, somehow managing to miss out on a play-off place after a run of just six points in the final eight games of the season.

Garry Monk’s men occupied a top six spot for the majority of the season, but their late season form saw them miss out, with Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham pipping them to play-off places.

The Whites appeared to just run out of steam towards the end of the campaign, but many will point to the club’s poor January transfer window as a reason for the slump, with some believing that Leeds didn’t strengthen enough.

Winger Alfonso Pedraza, signed on loan from Villarreal, showed some promise, but deadline day signing Modou Barrow proved to be one of the most pointless loan signings in recent Leeds history.

Barrow, 24, had shown flashes of quality with Swansea earlier this season, and a move to Elland Road – under his former Swansea boss Garry Monk – was seen as something of a coup for the Whites.

However, the Gambian started just one game for Leeds, featured in just five, played only 152 minutes of action and didn’t kick a ball following the 2-0 defeat to Brentford on the 4th of April.

Unsurprisingly, Barrow will now be sent back to Swansea this summer, and the winger is facing a crucial summer over his future, given that he is seemingly unwanted at Swansea, and was barely used by Leeds in the Championship.

As reported by The Chronicle in January, Newcastle United were keen to land Barrow, but the deal didn’t go through – and after Newcastle’s promotion to the Premier League and Barrow’s struggles with Leeds, there is little to no chance of the Magpies rekindling their interest.

That leaves Barrow in limbo, and in desperate need of regular playing time after a frustrating season. A move this summer could be on the cards, but he needs to settle down and realise his potential – even if it means dropping into the Championship on a permanent basis.
