Leeds United have allowed Mateusz Klich to leave the club on loan for Utrecht.
New Utrecht signing Mateusz Klich has told the club’s official website that he can’t wait to play first-team football again after leaving Leeds United.
Klich, 27, impressed in Dutch football last season, hitting six goals in 30 games for Twente, attracting major interest and eventually signing for Leeds United.
The Polish international – who has 10 caps to his name – was seen as a huge addition to the Leeds midfield, but his time at Elland Road has been something of a nightmare.
Klich started just one Championship game and appeared in only three others as a substitute, totalling just nine appearances in all competitions as he struggled to feature under Thomas Christiansen.
It has become apparent recently that Klich – brought to the club by director of football Victor Orta – simply wasn’t going to break into Christiansen’s side, and he has decided that enough is enough.
On Monday, Leeds confirmed that former Twente and PEC Zwolle ace Klich has returned to the Netherlands, penning a loan deal with Eredivisie side Utrecht until the end of the season.
After completing his move, Klich spoke to Utrecht’s official website about his move, immediately stating that he just wants to play football again after being cast aside at Leeds.
Klich also noted that he wants to play attacking football and hopes to have some fun with Utrecht, and his move away may ultimately seal the end of his Leeds career, even if it’s only on loan for now.
“I just want to play football,” said Klich. “I haven’t played much in England so I came back to Holland to play football. I’m a central midfielder who wants to play forward. I like offensive football and I really enjoy playing football so I hope we’re going to have a lot of fun,” he added.
