Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are reportedly about to suffer a blow from Barcelona in their quest to sign Manchester City attacking midfielder Raheem Sterling.
Arsenal interest
The Daily Star reported in October 2021 that Arsenal manager Arteta wants to sign Sterling from Premier League rivals City.
Arteta worked with the former Liverpool player when he was a coach at City.
Arsenal are reportedly keeping close tabs on the contract situation of the 26-year-old, who can also play as a winger.
Blow from Barcelona
However, it seems that Arsenal’s hopes to sign Sterling could be dashed by new Barcelona head coach Xavi.
The Mirror are reporting that Barcelona are about to make a loan offer to City.
Xavi wants the England international at Camp Nou.
The La Liga club want to sign Sterling on loan in the January transfer window and then make the deal permanent in the summer of 2022.
Sterling is reportedly Xavi’s number one transfer target.

Arsenal to miss out on Raheem Sterling?
It does appear that Arsenal will miss out on Sterling.
Unless, of course, the Gunners start planning a bid of their own.
It seems that Barcelona are more determined than Arsenal to sign the former Liverpool player now.
