Everton should consider a move for the Barcelona ace.
Everton boss Marco Silva has a lot of work to do at Goodison Park this summer, if he is to guide his side back into contention for the European places this season.
One particular area of concern for the Portuguese will be his central midfield department, especially with Morgan Schneiderlin facing an uncertain future on Merseyside.
With this in mind, the Toffees should consider a move for Barcelona’s deep-lying midfielder Sergi Samper.
A graduate from Barca’s famed La Masia academy, the 23-year-old is an exceptionally gifted footballer, and plays with a similar style to that of his teammate Sergio Busquets.
He is cool and composed when in possession of the football, possesses a wonderful array of passing, and also has the ability to snuff out danger before it truly develops.
Samper has struggled for regular game-time at the Camp Nou, so a move away from Barcelona might just appeal to him, and Everton could be the ideal place for him to kick start his career.
The Spaniard would slot in perfectly at the base of the Toffees’ midfield, and not only would he provide a shield for their back four, but also help them improve upon the fluidity of their play through the middle of the park.
One potential problem for Everton could be Samper’s buy-out clause, currently set at €50 million (£44.6 million), but with the backing of Farhad Moshiri, the Merseyside outfit should still possess enough financial firepower to test Barca’s resolve.
