The Barcelona ace would be an excellent addition to the Newcastle United squad this summer.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has a lot of work to do before the transfer window slams shut, after the worrying start that his side have endured to their Premier League campaign.

One particular area of concern for the Spaniard will be his defensive midfield department, with the lack of protection for his back-four being highlighted during both their losses thus far.

With this in mind, Benitez should use his Spanish connections to make a bold move for Barcelona ace Sergi Samper.

The 22-year-old is a disciplined midfielder, and accomplished in playing the holding role in the middle of the park, but he also possesses wonderful technical ability, and his inclusion in the Magpies side would undoubtedly help improve them.

Samper has a superb array of passing, and that combined with his expert vision helps him dictate the tempo of the game from a deep-lying position.

Everything about the Spaniard’s game is simplicity exemplified, and the kind of cool and composed nature that exudes would bring a certain level of authority to Newcastle’s midfield.

Despite his tender years, the Spain under-21 international is already vastly experienced, having made 172 senior appearances, although 137 of those have been for Barcelona’s B side in Spain’s second division.

Samper really is of the very highest quality though, and would represent a fantastic signing for the Toon. He has just two years remaining on his current deal at the Camp Nou, and Benitez should do everything within his power to bring him to St James’ Park this summer.
