Newcastle United and Manchester United were among the clubs linked with a move for Ansu Fati in the summer.

Barcelona are set to hand Ansu Fati a new bumper contract, just months after he was linked with a move to Newcastle United.
Newcastle were hoping to get hold of the wonderkid by just paying compensation to Barca, as he was still on a youth contract.
However, Barcelona now want to protect themselves against the prospect of losing the forward, and will offer him a new deal.
Barca want to put an £88.5 million release clause into his senior contract, and hand him £620,000 to pen the deal, which will keep him at the Nou Camp until 2024.

It seems, therefore, that Newcastle’s chance to sign Fati has now passed once and for all.
And Newcastle may be left to look back at what might have been, if the teenager does go on to fulfil his potential in Spain.
