Barcelona step up chase for Kalidou Koulibaly; have Everton missed their chance?

Everton attempted to snap up Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli last year, Farhad Moshiri has confirmed.

According to The Sun, Barcelona are now stepping up their chase for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and that surely rules Everton out of the race.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has confirmed that Everton made a move to sign Koulibaly in the summer of 2016 to the Liverpool Echo, but they were unable to afford his price-tag.

Koulibaly was valued at over £60 million by Napoli last year, and it seems that they have been justified for asking for big money.

Chelsea and Barcelona are now linked with the powerful centre-back – and if the two giants both enter the running for him Everton are surely out of the race.

Everton could use a new centre-back in January, with Ronald Koeman’s side struggling to find an effective partnership.

The Toffees are likely to stick by Michael Keane, but question marks hang over Phil Jagielka, Ashley Williams and Ramiro Funes Mori.

But if Koulibaly is still on Everton’s radar, it seems that they may have missed their chance to sign him, with interest rapidly rising in the Napoli man.
