Barcelona have opted against triggering the buy-back clause in Marc Cucurella’s contract, according to Mundo Deportivo, potentially opening the door for a move to Arsenal.

Perhaps Bojan Krkic said it best.

Speaking to Sport recently, a man who rose through the ranks at the Camp Nou during an era where almost the entire Barcelona starting XI was made up of academy graduates admitted he was left sickened by a ‘betrayal’ of the club’s Catalan roots.

“Barca have a plan. Or they had one. And I urge them to return to it. It is betraying the plan that has made us great,” said Bojan, bemoaning the lack of opportunities afforded to the likes of Riqui Puig and Carles Alena of late.

This is not a new complaint. The Barca fan base has been increasingly vocal in their dissatisfaction towards a policy which feels million miles away from the master blueprint that underpinned the glory days of Pep Guardiola.

These days, it feels that the kings of Catalonia would rather import a big-name foreigner than trust in their fabled academy system. ’More than a club’ indeed…

And, just to add to the frustration amongst a grumbling fanbase, MD claims that the La Liga champions have decided against the option to bring Cucurella back to the club where he honed his considerable talents despite a superb season at high-flying Getafe.

In a poll on Mundo Deportivo’s website, almost 90 per cent of the supporters disagreed with the decision. A damning indictment, we’re sure you’ll agree.

North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal could yet take advantage, with Estadio Deportivo claiming that the Premier League giants are keen on signing a rampaging left-back who is keen on leaving Spain for an adventure elsewhere.
