FC Barcelona have reportedly dropped their interest in signing Manchester City star Bernardo Silva despite months of chasing the Portuguese international.
According to Sport, the 28-year-old midfielder is now no longer on the Catalan side’s radar, with Barcelona opting to move on from Bernardo Silva as Xavi Hernandez looks to sign other options in the January transfer window and beyond.
The former AS Monaco star has long been linked with a move to Barcelona, with the La Liga giants plotting throughout all of last summer to sign Silva as part of their mega-spending project in the off-season, yet the Blaugrana were ultimately unsuccessful.
Valued by City at €100m (£88m) as reported by the Athletic, Silva looked almost certain to sign for Barcelona in 2023, with Pep Guardiola’s side expected for a mass midfield exodus that currently see Ilkay Gundogan leave Manchester at the end of his contract.

However, it now appears that Silva will remain in England with Barcelona now dropping their interest to sign the Portuguese superstar, though there is every chance that Xavi could reignite their intent to bring the playmaker to the Camp Nou in 2023.
Indeed, playing for Barcelona would be a dream for a player like Silva. And whilst the midfielder is arguably at the best club in the world right now in City, there will always be that fantasy of playing for the Catalan giants at some point in his career.
Barcelona could still sign Bernardo Silva in 2023

Barcelona might have shelved their interest in Silva for now, but that doesn’t quite mean that City are out of the woods yet in regards to their star playmaker, who could easily re-emerge as a target for the Catalan giants in the summer or even in January 2024.
After all, Silva is a player who would suit Barcelona’s style of football down a tee, and whilst Xavi isn’t keen on the midfielder for now, there is every realistic chance that the Portuguese international will pop up on the radar in the coming windows.
