The Toffees boss has so far played down links to his former club, but he will always be linked to a side where he remains an icon.
Ronald Koeman during his playing days at Barcelona
Everton may have to go back to the drawing board soon to find a new manager, if FC Barcelona decide that Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is the man to restore former glories.
Current Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is under pressure at it wouldn’t be a surprise were he to leave at the end of the season, with Barca all but out of the Champions League following a 4-0 round of 16 first leg loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
As well as this, while Barcelona are one point behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid, they have played a game more than their famous rivals – meaning it will take a perfect run, a slip up from Madrid, and probably a win at the Bernabeu as well to overthrow them.
Koeman’s work in the Premier League with both Southampton and Everton wouldn’t have gone unnoticed, and Manchester United’s League Cup victory has given the Toffees a tremendous chance of getting into the Europa League through seventh position.

While Koeman’s played down rumours linking him to his former club, as reported by the Daily Mirror, and insisted that he wants to build something at Goodison Park, the lure may be too much.
If the chance arose to manage one of the best clubs in the world, tugging on Koeman’s heartstrings in the process, then sadly for Everton, they’d be looking for a new manager.
