Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on Barcelona’s Riqui Puig.

Tottenham Hotspur's Argentinian head coach Mauricio Pochettino awaits kick off in the English Premier League football match between Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City at Wembley Stadium...

According to a report from Catalan newspaper Sport, Barcelona teenager Riqui Puig is closing in on a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Puig, 18, has come up through the ranks with Barca having been born in Catalunya, and has been touted for stardom having come through the La Masia academy.

The diminutive midfielder has been starring for Barcelona’s Juvenil A side and in the UEFA Youth League, whilst he has even made three appearances for the Barcelona B team.

However, the teenager has been held back lately due to uncertainty over his contract, as he can walk away from Barca this summer, with no acceptable renewal on the table.

Now, Sport report that Puig looks set to leave Barcelona this summer, and talks with Tottenham Hotspur are now ‘advanced’ as Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino loves the teenager’s ability.

Barca have seen the likes of Jordi Mboula, Eric Garcia and Sergio Gomez have all left Barcelona’s youth ranks in recent years as the days of the La Masia production line heading into the Barca first team look to be a distant memory – and fans are far from happy.

Barcelona supporters have taken to Twitter to react to the Puig rumours, claiming that the board are killing the club if they allow Puig to leave, with fans plotting to revolt if Puig isn’t kept out of Tottenham’s clutches with a new contract, begging the club to act and keep one of the most ‘mature’ young talents at the club.
