Barcelona saw Xavi walk away from the club in 2015, and now they must deal with the departure of another star midfielder as Andres Iniesta prepares to leave too.

Iniesta, 33, has been with Barcelona since moving from Albacete in 1996, and has enjoyed a glittering career in Catalunya.

The midfielder has racked up nearly 700 appearances for the club whilst producing art on the pitch with his passing and creativity, with nine league titles, six Copa del Reys, seven Spanish Super Cups, four Champions Leagues, three UEFA Super Cups and three Club World Cups underlining his success.

Now though, the Spanish international is leaving for pastures new, with a move to China on the cards at the end of the season, leaving Barcelona without two thirds of their famed Sergio Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta midfield.

Barcelona now face the unenviable task of attempting to replace Iniesta this summer, and whilst a host of midfielders will be linked with glamorous moves to the Camp Nou – even after Philippe Coutinho’s January move from Liverpool – fans seem to have set their hearts on Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen, 26, has excelled for Tottenham since his 2013 move from Ajax, and having hit 15 goals and 10 assists this season, he has often been touted to emulate compatriot Michael Laudrup by moving to Barcelona.

Now, supporters have taken to Twitter to demand that Eriksen is signed as Iniesta’s replacement this summer, as he would be the perfect successor – and whilst that would leave Spurs sweating, chairman Daniel Levy certainly wouldn’t be easy to deal with in negotiations.
