Marcus Rashford has enjoyed a stunning season for his dream club, Barcelona, but he very easily could still be playing at Aston Villa.
Rashford hasn’t played for United since a dispute with manager Ruben Amorim back in December 2024.
Even with his high profile, United decided to send Rashford on loan to Aston Villa in January 2025. He performed well during that spell, which led to his move to Barcelona.
But there was another offer on the table for him before he left England, according to comments from Barcelona director Deco.
Deco opens up on Marcus Rashford’s decision to reject Aston Villa

After being moved into the bomb squad by Amorim last summer, Rashford was keen to join Barcelona and eventually secured a loan move there.
But according to Barcelona sporting director Deco, there was interest from other clubs as well.
Speaking to SPORT, Deco revealed that Villa were interested in keeping Rashford after his loan spell but the forward had his sights set elsewhere.
“If Aston Villa could have kept him, they would have – I know because I speak to people there – but he only wanted to come to Barça, and that’s a good thing. He had the desire to come here and we were able to secure him on loan.”
“I think coming here on a reduced salary just to join — that shows he truly wanted to come. And we’re happy with him. He’s a player who gives us a lot.”
Man Utd must insist Barcelona stick to Rashford agreement
It was reported last month that Michael Carrick wanted Rashford back if he remained in charge next season.
But even if the club’s new management wanted him back, Rashford has made it clear he wants to stay at Camp Nou.
Barcelona are expected to push for a discount on the previously agreed fee, but Manchester United should refuse any attempts to lower the price. The club needs to be firm and ensure the full payment is made.
The sale will also help reduce the wage bill, freeing up funds for players who are committed to being at Old Trafford. United need to stand their ground and not give in to any pressure from Barcelona.
If they truly value Rashford as much as they claim, there should be no issue paying the agreed fee. United need to send a clear message: no discounts, pay up or walk away.
