Baraclough’s comments about Gavin Whyte should encourage Leeds fans

Leeds United have been linked with Crusaders winger Gavin Whyte in the summer transfer window.

A report in The Belfast Telegraph earlier this week claimed that Crusaders winger Gavin Whyte is a target for Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old winger is a Northern Ireland Under-21 international and is playing well at the moment.

While Leeds fans will have reservations about a young player who is playing in Northern Ireland Football League Premiership, Ian Baraclough’s comments about him last month should raise their hopes.

The 47-year-old is in charge of the Northern Ireland Under-21 national football team at the moment, having played in England with clubs such as Notts County and Queens Park Rangers.

Back on March 27, 2018, The Belfast Telegraph quoted Baraclough as saying about Whyte: “I think he can get better and better and has the tools to enable him to play at a decent level.

“I would like to see him get to play professionally, as I would the other Irish League lads in our set-up. Ultimately my job is to try and bring players through.”

Whyte could be a good signing for Leeds in the summer transfer window, as the West Yorkshire outfit could do with a young and energetic winger.

While one must not expect the 22-year-old to take the Championship by storm if and when he joins Leeds, but he could certainly be a very good long-term signing for the former Premier League outfit.
