Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been airing his fury about the fact Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson and James Milner have been made to answer questions about the European Super League.
The former Manchester United man, like the rest of us, was up in arms about the proposed Super League, and as a former player, he was really unhappy with the fact Henderson and Milner were made to stand in front of a camera and speak about the issue while clubs’ owners and chairmen were able to sit idly by.
Ferdinand gave the likes of Henderson, Milner and Patrick Bamford credit for speaking out, but he was far from happy with the fact they were made to do it.
“I have to say, the guys in the media have done an amazing job. Gary, Jamie, I saw Graeme Souness last night, the guys at Sky and BT, our guys who’ve done some amazing stuff. All of the media, the radio, all parts of the media have done an amazing job in talking about it. The players, massive respect to Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Bamford for speaking after the game,” Ferdinand said.
“They weren’t even advised, they weren’t told, it was thrown on their lap and they were preparing for the game, and after the game they were put in front of a camera. Where are the people who made these decisions? It’s actually out of order that they’ve had to go out there, your players on your behalf. It’s a liberty, bang out of order.”
Ferdinand may be a Manchester United legend, but he couldn’t help but give credit to the Leeds and Liverpool players.
The pundit is right, it was ridiculous that Milner, Henderson and Bamford were put into the firing line after not being briefed and having nothing to do with the Super League decision, but they handled themselves well and played a part in stopping this nonsense.
Hopefully, we never have to see footballers thrown under the bus like this again.
