Patrick Bamford has revealed to Sky Sports that Leeds United’s players were saying at half-time that they needed to take less risks in their own half due to the pitch.
Leeds beat Southampton last night with a barnstorming display in the second period.
The Whites netted three times in the second 45 minutes to take them game away from Southampton.
Bamford scored the first goal of the evening, before Stuart Dallas prodded home and Raphinha scored a free-kick.
Leeds noticeably were more direct after the break, with the Yorkshire side looking to turn Southampton’s defenders.
And Bamford says that their change in tactics all stemmed from a discussion at half-time, when they felt their game plan was too risky, given the slippery surface.

The striker said: “I think we played the pitch better. It sounds strange but at half-time we said we were making mistakes in our own half and getting caught on the ball. It was slippy.
“So we said to try and play into the opposite half quicker, so we did that and the key thing was the first goal. It brought them out and made them open up even more, and we picked them off then.”
Leeds’ win has lifted them up to 10th place in the Premier League table.
