Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has revealed he was winding up Tyler Roberts, after he finally broke his Premier League duck on the Leeds United podcast.
Roberts has waiting all season for a goal at Leeds, despite being given fairly regular starts of late by Marcelo Bielsa.
The Welsh international’s selection in Leeds’ team has caused some discussion among supporters.
But Roberts managed to break his scoring duck with a well placed finish against Southampton in midweek.
Roberts sealed Leeds’ victory late on, when he converted a shot from Patrick Bamford, which was initially saved.
Roberts’ desperation to score was clear in the build up to the goal as he ignored all passing options on a breakaway to try and forge an opening for himself.
The 22-year-old was actually tackled by a Southampton defender, but thankfully the ball fell to Bamford, and the chance wasn’t wasted.
But Leeds top goalscorer couldn’t resist making a jibe at Roberts, despite being delighted for his teammate to get off the mark.

“Bless him! I remember what it was like when I had been on all the loans and had spells at different teams in the Premier League and hadn’t scored, when I first got my first goal I was elated, I was so happy,” he said.
“Ty has been going through that and he got his run in the team and then dropped out again.
“In his head he is probably thinking that there is little chance he is going to get to score, but he was so happy.
“I was winding him up after saying you did your best to miss it to start with, but I’m so happy for him!”
Roberts’ delight was clear to see when the ball hit the back of the net through his celebration.
The forward sparked great scenes at St. Mary’s, with Leeds players rushing to congratulate him.
Leeds’ win over Southampton continues their strong run of form at the end of the season, and has pushed them up to 10th place in the Premier League table, heading into the final day.
