Patrick Bamford has revealed what happened in the huddle before Leeds United’s game with Manchester United which left every Whites player laughing on the official Leeds United podcast.

Luke Ayling was the player who was selected to wear the armband for Leeds last Sunday, in the absence of Liam Cooper.

The captain always takes the team-talk in the huddle, as Leeds players gather before kick-off.

Ayling, who has a speech impediment, has already admitted that he gets nervous before taking the talk – as he often worries he might not be able to get his words out properly.

Everything seemed to be going so well for the Leeds right-back when he started off at the weekend though.

But just as he was getting to the end of his motivational talk, Ayling stuttered.

And Bamford recounted the tale, saying: “So he’s come back into the huddle and like he said last week on the pod, he’s got everything planned in his head how he’s going to go.

“His first few words were ‘we’re not just doing it for the fans, we’re doing it for us as well. Let’s show them what we’re made of!’

“And then he went to say something else and all of a sudden his tongue just hit a barrier and he couldn’t say it.

“And instead of trying to say it he was just like ‘sod it, let’s go’ and everyone just ran out laughing.

“It was funny, everyone burst out from the huddle with smiles and laughing. The other team must have thought what the hell!”

Regardless of the climax of Ayling’s speech, Leeds still went on to put in an impressive performance against the Red Devils.

Leeds may not have been at their attacking best in the contest, but they were extremely resilient and stifled Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s key players.

Leeds ended up picking up a 0-0 draw which strengthens their position in the top half of the Premier League table.
