What a night it was for Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun on Thursday.
The 19-year-old hitman finally made his debut for the Gunners when Mikel Arteta gave him a cameo in the 3-0 Europa League win over Dundalk last night.
Balogun played the final 16 minutes as Arsenal bounced back from defeat by Leicester City last weekend in comfortably dispatching the Irish outfit at the Emirates Stadium.
This was quite a long time coming for the teenage marksman, whose performances for the Under-23s in recent years had him knocking on the door for a debut when a game like this – against markedly inferior opposition – came along.
Here’s how the United States-born gem reacted on Twitter after the game.
There’s also a potential hint in there, going by his claim that the ‘journey is only beginning’.
Balogun has twice being linked with moves away from Arsenal this calendar year – once in January when Brentford reportedly wanted him, and again last month when Sheffield United were said to be keen.
This is a player who is out of contract in North London next summer, meaning that he could potentially leave the Gunners on a free transfer in nine months.
But his post-match tweet suggests that the player himself is keen for the adventure to continue and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if there was contract developments soon.
