Tom Rogic scored his sixth career goal for Celtic against Old Firm rivals Rangers on Sunday afternoon – and the Aussie midfielder has earned Instagram praise from both Shane Duffy, and Scott Bain on Instagram.

Rogic, 29, was preferred alongside Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate in Celtic’s three-man midfield, as Ange Postecoglou looked to at least prevent Rangers from winning in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.

It proved to be the right selection. Rogic equalised for Celtic after Aaron Ramsey had put Rangers in front, before Cameron Carter-Vickers netted the winner. Rogic lasted 62 minutes, in his 17th Old Firm outing.

The midfielder remains crucial to Celtic and has reignited his form under the guidance of a fellow Aussie, in Ange Postecoglou. He has had a hand in 16 goals this season, scoring six and creating 10 more in his 43 outings.

Rogic was the source of praise for many Celtic fans on social media – as well as current and past teammates. Brighton star Duffy branded him the “Wizard of Oz”, while Bain joked Rogic should win the Ballon d’Or.

Rogic praised by Duffy, Bain: Celtic need to sort out his future

While Rogic has endured bouts of poor form, or spells on the sidelines with injury, he is part of the core. Postecoglou has brought in lots of new talent – but keeping the still-performing, long-serving stars is important.

Rogic’s contract ends in the summer of 2023, meaning he is about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal. Celtic need to hand him a new deal, giving him one with perhaps an extra year or two – he deserves it.
