Rangers fans got to watch Joe Aribo compete in his first Africa Cup of Nations match for Nigeria yesterday, and the playmaker stole the show.
Facing off against Mohamed Salah’s Egypt, the 25-year-old London-born midfielder assisted the sole goal of the match as Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho secured the three points for the Super Eagles.
Aribo’s Nigeria are one of the favourites for AFCON this year, and getting a win against tournament giants Egypt was the perfect way to kick off the competition.
With Sudan and Guinea-Bissau next up for Nigeria, there is a strong chance that Aribo and company will book their place in the Round of 16 of AFCON.
Indeed, Aribo was the star of the day, with the Rangers star outshining Salah, who earns a reported £200,000-a-week, in what was to be the Liverpool star’s grand opening at AFCON.
The former Charlton Atheltic talent has been in great form for Rangers this season. And on social media, supporters were buzzing over Aribo after his Man of the Match display for Nigeria.
