Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are interested in signing Gareth Bale in the summer transfer window, according to The Independent, but the Wales international winger wants to stay at Real Madrid, claims ESPN FC.

The Independent reported last month that Tottenham and United were interested in securing the services of Bale.

Gareth Bale of Real Madrid CF leaves the pitch following his side victory in the UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool on May 26, 2018 in Kiev, Ukraine.

The 28-year-old winger has had injury issues in recent years and was not guaranteed a place in Zinedine Zidane’s team.

ESPN FC has now reported that Bale has decided to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and fight for his place under Zidane’s successor Julen Lopetegui.

Blow for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United?

Given Bale’s high wages at Madrid, it was always going to be hard for Tottenham to lure the Welshman back to the North London outfit.

The former Southampton star is a much better and more accomplished footballer now than when he left Spurs in 2013, and Tottenham would have signed a superstar.

United could do with someone of Bale’s pace, energy and shooting prowess in the team, and he would have made Jose Mourinho’s side more competitive in the Premier League title race next season.
