Liverpool have a weakness at left-back.

Well-known Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has suggested on Skysports.com that there are no good left-backs for Liverpool in La Liga.

Liverpool have a decent squad, but one obvious area of weakness is left-back.

Alberto Moreno is the Reds’ first-choice left-back at the moment, but the 24-year-old Spain international has proven to be erratic and is not very strong defensively.

James Milner has been deployed at left-back, but the 30-year-old is a midfielder by trade.

Signing a left-back before the end of the summer transfer window would not be a bad idea for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

However, according to Sky Sports journalist Balague, the German boss will not find a capable left-back in La Liga.

When asked by @TheHarrikane89, on Skysports.com if there are left-backs in the La Liga to organise a swap deal with Liverpool with Moreno going other way, Balague wrote: “I get the sense that you want Liverpool to get rid of Moreno!

“The problem with deals of this kind is that players in the Premier League earn so much money that, unless Barcelona or Real Madrid come in for them, Spanish clubs don’t go and get them unless they’re not playing or their wage demands decrease.

“At this stage that is not the case with Moreno. In terms of the top La Liga left-backs available to Liverpool at present I don’t see anybody who is. Of the top 10 clubs in Spain there is nobody Liverpool could sign who would make an impact.”

Liverpool kicked off their 2016-17 Premier League campaign with a 4-3 victory over Arsenal away from home at the Emirates Stadium in North London.

The Merseyside outfit lost 2-0 to Burnley away from home at Turf Moor in the league on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Burton Albion away from home at the Pirelli Stadium in the second round of the EFL Cup.
