Lucas Moura is Tottenham Hotspur’s hero after scoring a decisive equaliser away to Barcelona.
Moura’s late goal secured a 1-1 draw and booked the club’s place in the Champions League last 16.
The Brazilian is in his first full season at Spurs after signing from Paris Saint-Germain in January.
Journalist Guillem Balague authored a book about Pochettino’s Tottenham last year and is close to the boss.
He claims Lucas Moura was not a player who Pochettino was pushing to sign.
Balague explained that this accounted for Lucas’ slow start at Tottenham.
Balague was speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily (11/12).
He said: “I got the impression that Lucas Moura was not a signing Pochettino looked for.
“He says ‘what do I do with this?’. It affected the team, a move to a 4-4-2, things that were not planned, but eventually, as happens with so many players, the player has adapted and has fitted in so well in the Spurs style.
“I’m not sure its what they needed, but he’s what they got, and they have made best of what they have.”
Lucas has shown he has a knack for scoring crucial goals, netting twice in a win away to Manchester United earlier this season.
Already this season he has made 22 appearances 19 of which have been starts, and scored seven goals.
