Could Barcelona make a move for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho next summer?

Guillem Balague Presenter of Sky Sports during the press conference

Well-known Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has told Sky Sports that the cost of Philippe Coutinho is stopping Barcelona from making a move for the Liverpool attacking midfielder.

Coutinho is one of the best players in the Premier League and has been in good form for Liverpool so far this season.

The Brazil international has scored five goals and created 32 chances in 12 league appearances for the Reds so far this campaign.

During the 2015-16 campaign, the 24-year-old, who can also operate as a winger, scored eight goals and created 49 chances in 26 Premier League matches.

Balague has suggested that Barcelona are not making a move for Coutinho due to the cost of the former Inter Milan man.

“Who has said Philippe Coutinho will be bought by Barcelona?” Balague told Sky Sports when asked if Barcelona are really going to buy Coutinho.

“There have been a lot of rumours fuelled by Neymar, who would like Coutinho in the side. However, I can tell you there is no strategy in place for Barcelona to sign Coutinho.

“I can tell you the cost of Coutinho is prohibiting Barcelona as it stands at the moment.”

Coutinho is certainly going to cost a lot of money next summer, especially if he continues to play as well as he is right now.

Liverpool may not be willing to sell the Brazilian even if they are offered a lot of money.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are going strong in the Premier League at the moment and are genuine contenders for the title this season.
