Guillem Balague has revealed Manchester United weren’t first choice for Radamel Falcao.

Spanish football expert and Sky’s La Liga correspondent Guillem Balague has highlighted two potential problems relating to two Manchester United strikers.

Radamel Falcao joins the club, according to several sources, but Balague points out that United were not the Colombian’s first choice.

He had his heart set on a move to Real Madrid but Balague suggests that his agent, Jorge Mendez, wasn’t able to pull the deal off, which has made United able to step in and do a deal for him.

The La Liga expert also suggests that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes that Robin Van Persie will always be injury prone after reports he requires knee surgery, which could keep him out of action for a prolonged spell.

Van Persie only recently returned to the United attack and if he suffers with problems for the rest of his career, it will be a big blow to United’s attack for as long as he’s at the club.

Falcao is a professional and while his dream may have been Real, he’s a world class player for United to have at the top of their attack and someone who can not only compensate for Van Persie’s absence but form a threatening partnership when the Dutchman is available.
