Balague delivers update on Sevilla interest in Liverpool’s Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge could be set to leave Liverpool and move abroad.

Sky Sports transfer expert Guillem Balague has claimed on his Youtube channel that Daniel Sturridge will only be allowed to leave Liverpool to join Inter Milan, with Sevilla also interested in the striker.

The 28-year-old has been afforded just 431 minutes of Premier League action this season, making just nine appearances in total and his chances of being on the plane to Russia hang by a thread.

The England international needs to depart and secure regular first-team football if he is to have a chance of being in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man squad ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Balague claims Sturridge would rather a move to Sevilla, but Liverpool are only willing to sell to Inter who are said to be offering more money. Sturridge’s representatives have also met Inter, as confirmed by Balague.

“About two or three weeks ago, Sevilla sent a message to Liverpool asking for Sturridge,” Balague said. “Liverpool said, he is not for sale. Since then, Inter showed interest. Liverpool have pushed to Sturridge that Inter could be the place to go.

“They would like to keep him. But the way they have put it to Sturridge is, Inter or you stay. Sturridge’s representatives have met Inter. The idea is to have him on loan with no obligation to buy. Sevilla have made a similar proposal.

“Inter are paying more for the loan deal. I wonder if Sevilla will come back with a bit of an improved offer to convince Liverpool as the impression I have is that he would like to go to Sevilla. But at the moment, it is Inter or he stays.”

Sturridge has not been afforded a sufficient amount of game time due to the presence of Roberto Firmino, who continues to shine while Dom Solanke has also impressed when given the opportunity.

With 18 months remaining on his current Anfield deal, it remains to be seen if Sturridge will leave the Merseyside giants before the end of the January transfer window – with nine days to go until the deadline on January 31.
