Leeds United beat Reading 1-0 at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Leeds United goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has admitted that he thought it was his time to step up when the Whites conceded a late penalty against Reading on Tuesday night.
After beating Bristol City 2-0 on Saturday afternoon, Leeds were back in action yet again on Tuesday night as they looked to make it two home wins in a matter of days.
Facing Paul Clement’s struggling Reading side looked like a fairly favourable fixture for Leeds, with the sides at opposite ends of the table, but it proved to be a little tougher than many expected at Elland Road.
Reading looked dangerous in the first half and left Leeds frustrated for much of the game, but the Whites did finally grab the winner in the second half as Stuart Dallas converted a loose ball from close range after Kemar Roofe’s effort was saved.
Late in the day, Barry Douglas brought down Josh Sims inside the area to give Reading a penalty, but Bailey Peacock-Farrell saved Marc McNulty’s spot kick to send Elland Road into raptures and clinch all three points.
It was a huge moment for Peacock-Farrell, as he has been under pressure of late and would have been dropped for Saturday’s win over Bristol City if Jamal Blackman had been available and Peacock-Farrell himself had been fit.
He missed that game anyway and came back in for Will Huffer on Tuesday night, justifying Marcelo Bielsa’s decision to bring him back in – and told Sky Sports after the game that he had one inspirational thought when the penalty was given.
“When the penalty was awarded I thought ‘this is my time’, I thought I had to step up, I had to make a crucial save, and thankfully I did it,” he added.
