Bailey Peacock-Farrell issues update on his Leeds future

Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s contract with Leeds United expires at the end of next season.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s contract situation may still be an issue that Leeds need to address, but the goalkeeper has provided a major boost to the Elland Road faithful by telling Sky Sports that he wants to stay with the Whites for many years.

Peacock-Farrell has been a key man since Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival. He broke into the first-team last season – after making his debut a couple of years earlier – but with Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan both struggling for form, it was only really when Bielsa was appointed and signed Jamal Blackman that Peacock-Farrell was able to make a statement by holding down his position.

The Northern Ireland international has managed to recover from a blip in form suffered just before teammate Blackman sustained a season-ending injury. A stunning last-minute penalty save in the 1-0 win at Reading certainly seemed to make up for any previous mistakes.

But Sky Sports suggests that his current contract runs out at the end of next season. However, while the 22-year-old may not have agreed a new deal just yet, he has provided an update on his future that suggests that Leeds fans have little to worry about.

“Leeds is my home. This is where I would like to stay and play for many years,” he told Sky Sports.

“The fans are expecting promotion. This is what we want and what the club deserves.”

Peacock-Farrell has made a couple of mistakes this season. But he has undoubtedly developed rapidly under Bielsa, and Leeds have now kept three clean sheets in their last four games to go to the top of the Championship table.

Signing a new goalkeeper should be a priority for January following Blackman’s injury. But while some may have briefly feared previously that Bielsa may have to look for a new first-choice, Peacock-Farrell has fought back.

He has responded superbly to his critics, and now agreeing a fresh contract with the youngster should perhaps be an even bigger priority than signing a new stopper when the window opens.
