Aston Villa’s early struggles in the Championship continued on Tuesday evening as they only drew 1-1 away at Barnsley.
Villa went into the match having drawn each of their previous four games, and had only won once as the pressure was mounting on Roberto Di Matteo.

Amid reports from The Mirror that Di Matteo had just two games to save his job despite only being appointed in the summer, Villa gave their Italian boos a boost as Jordan Ayew struck Villa in front from a tight angle.
As Villa looked to be closing in on a vital win, they again managed to concede a late goal, as Sam Winnall popped up to rescue a point for Barnsley.

Villa have now conceded six times in the last ten minutes of games this season; a quite crippling stat for Di Matteo as he fights to keep his job.
Next up for Villa, it’s a trip to Deepdale to take on a Preston North End side, who will be able to field former Villa youngsters Daniel Johnson and Callum Robinson, who were barely given a chance at Villa Park.
Preston North End’s Deepdale
Ahead of that game, Villa hero Ian Taylor has taken to Twitter to state he’s still baffled after Villa managed to come away from Oakwell with only a point on Tuesday night, and urged his former side to kill teams off.
Taylor also looked ahead to Saturday’s match against Preston, suggesting that it will be a ‘difficult game’ as they take on manager Simon Grayson, formerly of Villa.
