After watching West Ham’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United last night, some neutral supporters have commented on one incident.
In the 112th minute, David Moyes made a substitution, bringing Manuel Lanzini on in place of Ademipo Odubeko.
However, it must be noted that the 18-year-old had only been introduced to the game himself in the 54th minute.
Sadly, the teenager looked devastated as he saw his number up on the fourth official’s board.
It’s harsh when any player who’s been subbed on then finds themselves withdrawn in the same game – it’s often a very embarrassing moment.
However, it’s especially harsh to see it happen to Odubeko, who was making just his second first-team appearance for the Hammers.
His only other appearance was against Stockport in the Third Round, where he was given one minute of action by Moyes.
On his first real chance, at an iconic stadium such as Old Trafford, Moyes ensured that it would be a night to forget for the youngster.
He may not have been offering what the Scot demanded.
Having said that, it was still horrible to see him withdrawn having been subbed on himself earlier in the game.
