Son Heung-min has admitted to Football London that he is not playing to the best of his ability at the moment – but the Tottenham star is remaining positive and is confident in that he is still getting plenty of chances.

Son, 30, won the golden boot last season in the Premier League – finishing joint first with Liverpool’s Mo Salah. Given the form of Salah, especially in the first half of the campaign, it underlines just how good Son was for Spurs.

But expectation coincides with good form, and Spurs fans will have been hoping for more from Son so far. While it has not affected Tottenham’s results – remaining unbeaten with five games from seven – Son is struggling this term.

Starting all seven matches, the South Korea skipper has failed to score – and only laid on one assist. Against Marseille on Wednesday, he was poor. Losing possession four times, he also misplaced seven passes (WhoScored).

“I’m OK. If I’m honest, if I wasn’t getting chances in the game I would be worried but I’m still getting chances. In some games, there have been unlucky moments. In some games, it has been a bad finish,” Son said.

“Some games I’m really frustrated because if I have some massive chances and the ball doesn’t go in. It makes me just laugh. But I am not worried about it because the team and the staff and all the fans are helping me.”

Tottenham star Son has admitted he is not playing to best of his ability

Son is a top, top player. But with Richarlison scoring a brace in only his second start for Tottenham against Marseille, and Dejan Kulusevski perhaps unfairly dropped – maybe it is time for Son to sit out a match or two.

However, against Manchester City this weekend – if of course, the game does go ahead – is that really the best time to do that? Son is a world-class player and all he needs is one lucky bounce to get his first goal, and he is away.
