Young Seattle Seahawks fans hoping for a day off to celebrate the Super Bowl parade have received disappointing news.
Seattle Public Schools has confirmed that classes will remain open during the team’s championship parade following the Seahawks’ 29-13 Super Bowl LX victory over the New England Patriots.
Students who miss school to attend the celebrations will be marked with an unexcused absence. The ruling leaves thousands of pupils facing a choice between attending class and joining the citywide festivities.

The Seahawks World Champions Parade is scheduled for Wednesday, beginning with a 10 a.m. trophy ceremony at Lumen Field before moving through downtown.
Seattle Public Schools notified families that attendance policies will remain fully in effect despite the historic occasion. The district will operate on its normal early-release Wednesday schedule.
Chief Operations Officer Fred Podesta outlined the reasoning behind the decision. He also made clear that exceptions would not be granted for parade attendance.
“Keeping schools open is an important part of maintaining stability, safety, and continuity for our students.”
“Attendance policies will remain in effect, and parade attendance will not be considered an excused absence.”
District prioritises continuity and essential services
Podesta emphasised that schools provide critical daily services beyond classroom learning. The district encouraged families to celebrate in ways that suit their households while keeping schools open and operational.
“For many families, schools provide not only learning, but also meals, transportation, specialized services, and trusted routines.”
Officials also advised allowing extra travel time due to expected congestion near the parade route.
Although hundreds of thousands are forecast to line the streets, students across the district will still be expected in school.
The Seahawks may be champions, but there will be no official holiday for young fans marking the moment.
