West Ham United co-owner David Gold has flatly denied claims over the club’s transfer methods, making under pressure Slaven Bilic look bad.

For most Hammers fans, what has been a disappointing season can’t end quick enough.

The Hammers have endured a torrid second season under Bilic after their record breaking farewell campaign at Upton Park.

Knocked out of the Europa League, EFL Cup and FA Cup in embarrassing fashion, the East Londoners then lost star player Dimitri Payet after he forced through a return to Marseille.

Bilic turned things around after Christmas as the club pulled away from the relegation zone but results have dipped again of late with no win in five and three defeats on the bounce.

The majority of fans are still behind their under pressure manager, though, blaming the board instead for the club’s troubles.

Ask any West Ham fan where things have gone wrong this season and they will point to some terrible transfer business as the root cause.

With David Sullivan in particular taking a lead on all transfer business supporters feel the club have undermined their manager with a lack of ambition.

But Gold took to Twitter to deny he and Sullivan have the last word on signings, which does Bilic no favours at all given some of the woeful recruitment this term.

“You are ill informed,” Gold responded to claims Bilic has little or no say in signings.

“There is a big difference between reckless gambling and wise investing.”

The true cost of West Ham’s disastrous season of signings has been laid bare by a HITC.com report which showed outcast Alvaro Arbeloa will have earned an estimated £866,000 PER GAME after just three appearances this season.

The Hammers brought in 11 players in the summer and another two in January with only Edimilson Fernandes and more recently Andre Ayew making any kind of positive impact.
