Arsenal target Michael Olise has received criticism from Peter Crouch for a “bad mistake” made earlier on Saturday.

The Crystal Palace No.7 – who the Daily Mail believe is wanted by Mikel Arteta – started for the Eagles against West Ham in today’s early Premier League fixture.

However, Olise made a blunder which Crouch picked up on at half-time.

What’s the story?

Well, Olise handed West Ham their opener in the ninth minute when he strangely headed the ball back into the danger area, where Tomáš Souček gratefully smashed beyond Sam Johnstone.

Speaking on BT Sport at the interval, Crouch described it as a “bad mistake” by the France Under-21 international.

However, he did go on to admit that Olise responded well to the error by playing a crucial role in both Jordan Ayew and Wilfried Zaha’s goal to put Crystal Palace 2-1 ahead.

The 21-year-old Arsenal target certainly showed maturity to bounce back with such an impact.

Olise went on to receive praise from Glenn Hoddle live on commentary duty, with the 65-year-old heaping praise on the “developing” young talent as he later went on to name him Man of the Match.

Arsenal will have been impressed by Olise

While it was a moment of madness from Olise to assist Souček, Arteta – if he truly is keen to sign the winger – will have been impressed by his response to the setback.

After all, mentality is just as important as talent when it comes to being a professional footballer.

The £8m man caused West Ham all sorts of problems as he won four freekicks from the Hammers, while also playing one key pass, embarking on one successful dribble and also making three clearances as WhoScored shows.

Were it not for a slight flick from Ayew, Olise would have been able to claim two assists – nevertheless, he will be pleased with one on an afternoon where he was involved in almost everything positive Crystal Palace did.
