Glasgow Rangers are considering making Steve McClaren their next manager after Pedro Caixinha’s dismissal.
Rangers are considering appointing Steve McClaren as manager, the Scottish Sun reports.
Ibrox chiefs sacked Pedro Caixinha as manager last month as Rangers fell to fourth place, trailing Glasgow rivals Celtic.
McClaren has a mixed record as manager, and the sight of one Gers player in particular will bring back bad memories for the 56-year-old.
Niko Kranjcar scored in Croatia’s famous 3-2 win at Wembley over England back in 2007, which cost McClaren his job.
England failed to qualify for Euro 2008 as a result of the 3-2 defeat and McClaren’s reputation was forever tarnished.
Kranjcar had also scored in Croatia’s 2-0 win at home to England in the same qualifying campaign, which first put McClaren under pressure.
10 years on and Kranjcar is at the latter end of his career, now 33-years-old.
He featured at the weekend as a substitute in Rangers’ 3-0 win over Partick Thistle, shaking off an injury which kept him out of action for the past month.
He could certainly become a key player under McClaren at Rangers if ex-Newcastle boss lands the role, providing there are no hard feelings a decade on.
