Jurgen Klopp has revealed some bad news about midfielder Curtis Jones as part of Liverpool team news.

Liverpool kick off their Champions League campaign tonight with a visit to Napoli as Klopp’s side look to go one better in the competition this season, having being beaten finalists in May.

Jones hasn’t kicked a ball all season for the Reds due to injury but he was named in the squad last week for the dramatic victory over Newcastle United.

However, the Kirkby academy product was missing again for the Merseyside derby draw at Everton last weekend.

And Klopp has told Liverpool’s official website that although this setback isn’t as serious as the initial injury, its still ‘not very helpful’.

He said: “Curtis, when he was out previously he had a stress reaction in a specific bone around the tibia. It was absolutely fine, no problem anymore; trained twice, felt it again.

“It was not as bad as the first time but bad enough for not being involved in team training again, which is not very helpful.”

Liverpool team news

If you’re Klopp you must be pulling hairs out left, right and centre over this situation.

Liverpool only have a handful of available midfielders tonight and it’ll be interesting to see if Arthur Melo earns a competitive debut.

He joined the Anfield outfit on loan from Juventus on deadline day and with Thiago, Jones, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still sidelined, the German manager might feel as if he has no choice but to start Arthur in Italy.
