Leeds United suffered their first defeat of the season, but Mallik Wilks enjoyed a very good day with loan club Accrington Stanley.
Leeds fans are having to deal with the taste of defeat for the first time this season after losing 1-0 to Millwall in a game that Thomas Christiansen’s men never really got into.
The loss, and the manner of it, may have taken some of the shine off Leeds’ start to the campaign, but Christiansen will surely be reminding his players that the side are still top of the Championship, and thus, they can still be extremely positive in the wake of the defeat.
Another reason for optimism is the form of youngster Mallik Wilks – who enjoyed an eventful afternoon with Accrington Stanley, who he joined on a loan deal until January back in the summer.
The 18-year-old scored on his debut with a stoppage-time equaliser back in August, and he was at it again in their game on Saturday with another late goal for Accrington during their clash with Chesterfield.
Stanley went into the final eight minutes level at 1-1 before Wilks scored the winner from the edge of the box to keep Accrington in the League Two automatic promotion places.
While it will not alleviate the disappointment from the Millwall defeat, Leeds fans will undoubtedly be hoping that Wilks continues to find the back of the net while away from Elland Road during the coming months and comes back next year full of confidence, perhaps looking to push for more first-team chances.
