Scotland suffered late heartbreak against England on Saturday evening as Harry Kane’s late equaliser rescued a point for the Three Lions.

Scotland headed into the game with few expectations after a disappointing 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign so far, whereas England had yet to even conceded a goal, and sat top of Group F.

After a dour first half at Hampden Park, England did take the lead in the second period when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cut in from the left flank to fire into the net, with Craig Gordon unable to stop the Arsenal winger’s effort.

Scotland turned the game on its head though, as Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths scored two free kicks from an almost identical position within three minutes of each other.

England had to fire back in injury time to rescue a point, and did so as Harry Kane swooped in at the back post to snatch a 2-2 draw for Gareth Southgate’s men.

Celtic goalkeeper Gordon was heavily criticised for both goals, having shown weak wrists to stop Oxlade-Chamberlain’s effort, and then could have come off his line to gather the cross leading to Kane’s goal.

During and after the game, Celtic fans took to Twitter to discuss the 34-year-old’s performance, with many suggesting that Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers should be looking to replace him this summer.

Others think that Gordon was simply out of his comfort zone with Scotland away from Rodgers’ style of play and his usual defence, preferring to defend the goalkeeper rather than criticise him.
