Miguel Azeez has announced on Instagram that he is back at Arsenal.
Arsenal sanctioned a season-long loan deal with Portsmouth for their 19-year-old academy prospect last summer.
However, Azeez appeared to struggle with the League One club.
On January 14, it was reported by The Daily Mail that the Gunners had brought him back to North London following a crisis of midfield options.
And although that was some three weeks ago, Azeez appears to have confirmed the return on social media tonight.
Here’s what the Hale End prospect posted on Instagram:
Will Arteta use him?
Well, it’s a little doubtful.
Azeez managed only four League One starts down at Pompey and therefore it’s difficult to see the Spanish manager relying on him heavily for the remainder of the campaign.
Arsenal loaned out Ainsley Maitland-Niles without signing a replacement and with Mohamed Elneny likely getting an extended break after helping Egypt to a Africa Cup of Nations final, Arteta’s midfield will be stretched further.
Even still, Azeez’s statistics at Portsmouth illustrate that he’s nowhere near ready for the big time in North London and therefore it’s probable that he’ll go back to being an Under-23 player for the moment at least.
