Reiss Nelson has posted on his Instagram story ‘rehab done’ as the winger returned to Arsenal training ahead of their Premier League clash against Brentford on Sunday.

The 22-year-old has only made one appearance on the bench this season for Mikel Arteta, with a thigh injury keeping him out of action.

Sunday’s re-scheduled Brentford game at noon might be too soon for Nelson, and even if it is, he is just delighted to be back on the grass, as he posted on social media.

BIG FEW MONTHS AHEAD FOR NELSON

Arsenal’s flying winger, who was loaned out to Feyenoord last season, is at a crossroads in his career and this is where he needs an upward trajectory.

Nelson has less than a year left to run on his current contract in north London, and if he wants to have a long-term future, then those performances need to start stacking up.

Out on the pitch, the team has made massive improvements under Arteta, whilst a number of young stars are shining under his stewardship.

Bukayo Saka is the prime example for someone like Nelson because the England international has come through the same Hale-End academy as the right-footed winger.

Not only is Saka one of the first names on the teamsheet at club level, but he is also a regular for Gareth Southgate and he will be a crucial member of their 2022 World Cup squad.

Whilst Nelson will struggle to earn regular minutes in the Premier League now, the domestic competitions, but most importantly, the Europa League games, are very important for him to bang the door down.

If he does that, then he will see those minutes on the Premier League stage increase, and just like Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli, he can make strides under Arteta.
