Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers could have a huge decision to make about Alfredo Morelos.

Alfredo Morelos of Rangers Cedric Kipre of Motherwell during the Betfred Cup Semi Final at Hampden Park on October 22, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Kris Boyd has told Sky Sports that Rangers could finance the acquisition of up to four top players by moving on Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian hitman netted 30 goals across all competitions for Rangers last term.

In doing so, the 22-year-old is bound to attract attention and there has already been speculation about Newcastle United wanting to bring him to the Premier League [Don Balon].

The fiery striker received no fewer than five red cards for Steven Gerrard’s last season and it could be argued that his ill discipline undermined the Gers’ attempts to win a first major trophy since returning to the Scottish Premiership in 2016.

If he goes, he will almost definitely land Rangers a significant transfer fee, and former Ibrox marksman has told Sky Sports that using the money generated by his potential sale to bolster the squad would be the smart move by Gerrard.

Boyd said: “If I was Rangers I would sell him.

“I think that if you can get the money that teams might be willing to pay, you can go and maybe strengthen your squad or your first team with maybe three or four other players who can make a big difference.”

You can understand Boyd’s logic. Gerrard could do a lot of good with the major money Morelos would bring in and although losing a 30-goal-a-season striker isn’t ideal, it does invite the opportunity to restructure the team and indeed the squad.
